Going Through But Not Getting Stuck Pt. 2

Get Out of Your Review Mirror

…”But now, this is what the Lord says – he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: ‘Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.’” Isaiah 43:1

Over the course of our lives, we have had many things happen. Some good, like when you worked hard to get a passing grade in a class that was not your strongest subject. While other things are monumental, like when you saw your child for the first time.

However, it always seems that the things that mark our lives the most are the bad things. Bad things; the sting of rejection we feel when dealing with a love unrequited. When we have to face life after the death of loved one. The times we have to pick up the pieces of our hearts after the betrayal of someone we considered a friend.

Those bad times, difficult issues that come upon us all seem to mark how we are going to deal with the rest of our lives more than all of the good time combined.

Nevertheless, God is speaking to us, just as he was speaking to Israel, when he said, “I have summoned you by name; you are mine.” God knows everything there is to know about us; all the cracks and creases that the hard knocks of live have left in our hearts and in our spirits, but still he calls us to him.

You may be suffering from low self-esteem because of a difficult divorce, or maybe you were the fat kid in your school. It does not matter; God still calls you because you are His. It may be that you were abused by a parent or suffered from an eating disorder, God does not care. He is stilling calling you because you are His. Maybe you did not have parents that made good decisions on your behalf, and their bad decision may have cost you opportunities. It is still okay, God is calling you because you are His.

There are times we are stuck in the mock and the mire of yesterday and we allow it to define who we are today. God knows all about it. He made you, designed every day of your life. He knew about your parents, the heartbreak of a bad relationship, your battle with depression long before you were born. Yet, he still calls you because you are His.

Get out of your review mirror and stop letting what happened then determine whom you are now. Stop refusing to answer your destiny because of your past. You are behind the steering wheel of the vehicle God has given you to get through this life. Stop looking back and look forward so you can move ahead.

…”Do not be afraid, for I am with you…” Isaiah 43:5a
