Commitment I

Commitment I

“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.” Proverbs 16:3

Commit means: to put into charge or trust, to put into a place for disposal or safekeeping.

The word of God says we are to put whatever we do in the charge or trust of God for safekeeping and that our plans – what we entrust to God – will succeed.

Some people seem to grow and prosper in the Lord so much faster and easier than others. We all serve the same God, we all have the same Holy Spirit, and so what is the problem with folks who seem to lag behind those who “run with the horses”?

One of the problems is commitment. People are simply not committed to the Lord. They are not totally sold out for His sake. They waiver, stumble and bumble in and out of God’s will for their lives. They are not committed enough to turn off the television, turn off their “friends” and turn off the world, in order to seek God’s face and not just His hand.

They do not want to know the heart of God, which is His will for their lives. They only want to know the hand of God: His blessings in their lives. They are not willing to let go of the blessing to get to the Blesser. They are committed to the Janet Jackson syndrome of Christianity: “(God), what have you done for me lately,” but not the John F. Kennedy stance of humility: “Let me not ask what my (God) can do for me, but what I can do for my (God).” Janet Jackson Christians are committed to happy days and good times, but not the growing and maturing pains we must all endure in order to look more like Jesus.

How committed are you? Do you trust God enough to commit your plans to Him? Do you trust Him enough to listen to His plans for you and adjust your plans so that they are in line with His?

These are not questions that most of us can answer quickly or easily, but as we are in the Lenten season, let us consider our commitment to God.

Question for the day - What plan are you currently working on that you are willing to commit, entrust, to God?

“Trust in the Lord with all you heart and lean not on your own understanding…” Proverbs 3:5

Grace and peace,
First Lady Anita Wamble
